ASOS is slammed for selling Hanger choker

An ASOS choker necklace has been branded ‘vile and insensitive’ by customers who say it ‘glorifies suicide imagery’.

The Latex Flamer Choker, designed by a brand named Hanger, resembles a belt and is worn fastened around the neck.

The item, priced at £45, has provoked fury among on social media, with users describing the name of the product – and the imagery used to sell it – as ‘sickening’.

Following the criticism, the choker appears to have been removed from the ASOS website.

Dozens of shoppers took to social media to slam the fashion accessory, which was modelled by a woman wearing a T-shirt featuring the brand name ‘Hanger’.

One person wrote: ‘So disgusted with @ASOS – it seems that in a time when death by suicide is becoming more common they attempt to make suicide fashionable.

‘The pose, the belt, the branding on the tee – sickening’.

Parents also took to Mumsnet to criticise the choker, with one mother writing: ‘I thought this was hideous, but together with the pose and brand name, isn’t it vile and insensitive?’
