Asyut building being renovated collapses into rubble

The video first depicts a regular day on a regular road in Egypt.

Pedestrians, cars and a cyclist pass by and the occasional car horn can be heard in the city of Asyut.

Suddenly, dust dumps down onto a balcony from the floor above.

The front of the building then crumbles into a dramatic cloud of dust and debris.

People duck for cover below as a tsunami of powdered cement and chunks of solid wall hurtle down onto the street.

It is not known whether anyone was injured in the incident.

It was remarkable that the person who filmed the scene happened to have a camera trained on the building at the exact moment of its spectacular demise. 

Asyut is a city in Egypt with a population of 389,307 according to data from 2006, and almost 50% of those who live there are Coptic Christian, this is one of the highest concentrations of Coptic Christians in Egypt.

Asyut is also home to one of the largest universities in Egypt – the University of Assiut.

The city is renowned for its textile industry and pottery.

The building collapses into a cloud of dust and debris, engulfing the area in opaque particles of building material and obscuring the hot Egyptian sun

After the dramatic collapse, the extent of damage becomes apparent. It is not known whether anyone was injured in the incident
