Two goals from Alvaro Morata and one from Antoine Griezmann sealed the Madrid derby in favour of Atletico.
Morata and Griezmann put the hosts two-up, but Toni Kroos pulled one back for Real Madrid just before the break.
Morata extended Atletico’s lead to 3-1 just a minute into the second half, and they held on to a vital win over their rivals in Spain’s capital city.
