  • Travellers are experiencing huge queues after the airport was put on lock down

Passengers travelling through Auckland Airport are experiencing huge queues after a passenger with a large knife passed through security.

Auckland Airport went into lock down on Tuesday afternoon while the knife-wielding woman was searched for by Aviation Security.

The traveller is believed to have made her way through into an international terminal  after passing through the security screening, Newshub reported.

It is understood flights have been delayed as a result of the incident.

A man, who wished to be only identified as Bill, told Daily Mail Australia passengers were first told delays were caused by a ‘system glitch’ just after 6pm local time.

He said that he was now standing in a ‘massive queue’ and that the departure lounge was flooded with awaiting travellers.

More to come.
