Aussie bloke reveals insane $178,000 job that is desperate for more workers: ‘There’s money to be made’

A tradie has revealed his insane six-figure salary, telling young people to ‘give trades a go’ and they did not have to go to university to have a ‘good career’.

The tradie was stopped on the Gold Coast by TikTok producer GetAhead who asked him what he did and how much he earnt.

The man shared that he was an instrumental electrician working in the oil and gas industry and earnt about $178,000 a year.

‘I just started off as a normal sparky and then got my instrumentation ticket after that, that’s another sort of ticket on top of certificate four and certificate three,’ he said.

The tradie said there were plenty of jobs in the field and companies were always screaming out for instrumentation electricians.

When asked what advice he would give younger people who were unsure what path to take after school, he said to ‘give trades a go’.

‘I think there is definitely money to be made in trades,’ he said.

‘You don’t necessarily have to go to university or anything like that to have a good career.’

The tradie told GetAhead that if he was not working as an instrumentation electrician he would probably be doing another trade.

According to talent.com, the average instrumentation salary in Australia is $109,733 per year. 

Entry-level positions start at about $93,500 per year, and more experienced workers make about $158,870 per year.

The role is responsible for the smooth operation of measurement and control systems across industries including oil and gas, manufacturing, chemical plants, pharmaceuticals and power.

A nurse who watched the video on TikTok commented that she had been a nurse for 20 years and made nowhere near this amount of money.

Another person said they had clients with adult apprentices who were earning about $120,000 working 40 hours per week.

‘Always heaps of jobs in the trades and so much easier to do (renovation) and flipping,’ the person commented.
