Aussie driver’s sneaky act after being fed up with ‘selfish’ parkers in major cities: ‘Everyone needs to try this’

An ‘infuriated’ Aussie who was fed up with selfish neighbours taking up more parking space than they needed decided to take matters into his own hands.

Matt de Boer, a former AFL player living in Sydney, discussed the ‘sneaky’ trick he used to ‘educate’ the selfish parkers on a podcast with Dylan Buckley.

‘So in Sydney you know what it’s like to get a parking spot sometimes,’ he said in a video.

‘And right out the front of our house there was clearly room for four cars, you can tell to the eye there’s room for four, but with the way people park there was always three.

‘And I was like, selfish parking, it infuriated me because I’d come home and not be able to park out front. I had to try around the corner or it ended up being a fair walk.’

While Matt first considered writing a note to the ‘selfish’ neighbours, he decided there must be a better way to get the message across.

‘So I went and bought fluorescent masking tape and Rach is just like, “what are you doing?”.’

Matt then waited for it to be dark before he went out and measured what would be four parking bay equivalents, marking each spot out with the fluorescent tape.

The common problem of parkers taking up too much space and not leaving enough room for others is an annoying issue in many busy streets across Sydney

And his creative approach worked.

‘Sure enough, I come back the next day and there’s three cars parked beautifully in their spots and I took the fourth one,’ he said.

‘People are hungry to be led mate, you just need to show them sometimes.’

Aussies were impressed with Matt’s direct approach to the common parking problem, praising him for taking charge of the issue himself.

‘Absolute genius. I’ve said this for years now that councils should put lines down for all car spots on every street. This is why big car parks work, because there are dedicated parking spots,’ one said.

Another suggested that Matt take it to the next level and get some spray paint to make the new parking bays ‘official’.

This comes after drivers in Melbourne were outraged after spotting a giant GMC pick up tracking taking up two parking spots.

Fed-up with with these giant utes, many angry Aussies are demanding drastic action be taken against the owners.

And some councils across Australia are even investigating the possibility of charging drivers of super-sized vehicles extra to park their cars.

People were fired up in their response to the photo of the pick-up in the Melbourne shopping centre.

One Aussie was very blunt in their response: ‘I hate those f***ing utes so much.’
