Aussie favourite ute is urgently recalled with thousands of customers put on notice

Two major car brands have issued urgent recall notices after reports different manufacturing problems could lead to injury or death.

Mazda Australia is recalling 8936 affected units of its BT-50 ute after the discovery of a fuel leak could lead to a fire.

‘Due to a manufacturing issue, the fuel hose may chafe against the engine oil level bracket and become damaged,’ the company stated in its recall notice.

‘If this occurs, fuel may leak in the presence of an external ignition source resulting in a vehicle fire.’

Anyone who has purchased the current TF-generation versions of the Mazda BT-50 with the larger 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine produced between 2021 and 2023 are urged to contact Mazda to have the fuel hose replaced at no charge.

Meanwhile, Great Wall Motor Company Limited also issued its own recall notice on Monday for its GWM ORA 2023 model.

There’s 1,659 units affected and they include all variants within this model of car, the company explained.

‘Due to a programming issue, if the operator removes the charging cable without cancelling the charge, an electrical arc between the charging plug and the vehicle may occur,’ the company stated in its recall notice.

‘If an electrical arc comes into contact with the operator or bystanders it will increase the risk of serious injury or death.’

Affected customers will be contacted by GWM in writing, requesting they make an appointment at their preferred GWM Dealer who will update the vehicle software, free of charge.
