But that didn’t seem to bother the young Aussie as he gave a legendary interview with Nine after his triumph.

Sydney sailor Morris, 20, has guaranteed Australia’s first sailing medal of the Paris Olympics after sealing a spot in the three-board showdown of the new iQFOiL class, having finished in the top three at the end of the preliminary racing.

It represents a stunning result for the debutant who gave up rugby to pursue his Olympics dream. The 100kg unit certainly can’t have any regrets over his decision to continue windsurfing.

‘I’m pretty bloody happy, that’s for sure,’ he told Nine.

‘Rugby helped me on my path to getting where I am, everyone around me in rugby also helped and it’s carved who I am today. It all paid off.’

Morris is the son of national windsurfing champion Brett, and says he is aiming for the top prize in Marseille as he sets about making history for his country. .

‘It’s very cool, I’m super happy knowing I’m going home holding something and now I’ve got to put all the work together to make sure it’s going to be gold colour,’ he said.
