Aussie soccer commentator Lucy Zelic lashes out at people who say ‘homemaker is a dirty word’ – as she opens up about sacrificing her TV career to raise her kids

  • TV identity confirmed she loves being a mum at home
  • Also outlined the sacrifices she has made to do so

Aussie television presenter and football expert Lucy Zelic has slammed people who dismiss the role of ‘homemakers’ in society – before going on to detail the personal sacrifices she has made to raise her family.

Zelic, 37, is married to former A-League footballer Corey Gamiero, and the couple have one child, daughter Mila.

Taking to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, the outspoken Aussie soccer commentator didn’t mince her words when it came to proudly raising their toddler, who was born in 2019.

‘When did homemaker become a dirty word? I support the choice to return to work but I will never regret choosing to be home with my children, albeit to our financial detriment,’ she tweeted.

‘Our government would rather pay childcares than parents to raise their children so they can collect tax.’

Zelic was responding to a story from the US about the wife of recently retired NFL star Jason Kelce was trolled online for being a fulltime mother.

The Philadelphia Eagles legend – who won a Super Bowl title in 2017  and is the brother of Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Travis – declared in response: ‘Our marriage is a partnership, we are equals who are figuring it out on the daily.

‘The only expectation is that we love each other, support one another, and are committed to our family, that comes first.’

It comes as Kelce also weighed in on the Harrison Butker saga after revealing his wife Kylie was left ‘frustrated’ by the Kansas City Chiefs NFL star’s now infamous commencement speech at a college.

Butker sparked major controversy earlier this month when he addressed graduates at Benedictine College, claiming women should prioritise being ‘homemakers’ instead of pursuing careers.

He then took aim at the LGBTQ+ community and abortion advocates in an opinion-dividing speech.

The Chiefs kicker, who helped his team win the Super Bowl in February, has drawn heavy criticism over his comments, with Kansas City superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes distancing himself from his teammate’s views.

And on the latest episode of their New Heights podcast, Kelce spoke with his Chiefs-star brother Travis about Butker’s speech.

‘Make no mistake about it, a lot of the things he said in his commencement speech are not things that I align myself with,’ Jason said.

‘He’s giving a commencement speech at a Catholic university, and shocker … it ended up being a very religious and Catholic speech.

‘I can also acknowledge that not everybody has to be a homemaker if that’s not what they want to do in life.

‘I’ve had so many people ask me, what would you do if your daughters had to sit there and listen to somebody tell them – after they’ve just earned a degree – that they should just go to align to be homemakers?

‘I get what the fuss is about, because I know that certain groups have been persecuted against for a long period in this country.

‘And women in particular, obviously my wife… I think she was a little bit frustrated with some of the comments from Harrison.’
