Aussies blast Channel Nine commentator for ‘slouching through the whole Olympics’ – before being told they have made a shocking and VERY offensive mistake

  • Fans wondered why one Channel Nine identity was ‘slouching’
  • Some supporters then confessed their faux pas in TikTok clip

Aussie sports fans have been left red-faced after calling out a Channel Nine commentator for ‘slouching through the whole Olympics’ – only to find out they’ve made a shocking error.

The ‘relaxed’ media identity is Dylan Alcott – the nation’s greatest ever Paralympian – who is wheelchair bound.

Taking to TikTok, one Games supporter posted an image of Alcott alongside Nine colleague Leila McKinnon with the caption: ‘I just thought this presenter has been really comfortable and chilling the entire time.’

She was then mortified to hear the ‘commentator who has been slouching the whole of the Olympics’ is actually confined to a wheelchair – and said she had ‘no idea’ her take was so incorrect.

And it turns out the sports fan isn’t alone.

Another posted in response to her video: ‘Not kidding, same thing happened to me…..I said to my dad ‘oh he’s very relaxed all the time and slouching in his chair’….my dad and partner were shocked I didn’t know who he [Alcott] was.’

A third weighed in with: ‘I thought the exact same, I was like damn he’s chill, seems cool.’

Alcott, 33, is unlikely to be offended.

The decorated sports star often pokes at himself – and saw the funny side at the Games when asked to offer his expertise on the men’s 20km race walk.

‘It’s important to bring in the experts when hosting the TV coverage of the Olympic Race Walk,’ he posted on Instagram along with a video of him raising his eyebrows and holding his hands in his lap with a cheeky expression.

Alcott then doubled down with the comment: ‘Been training my whole life for this moment’.

Alcott was born with a tumour wrapped around his spinal cord, which resulted in him becoming a paraplegic after surgery to remove it.

He thrived as a wheelchair tennis player, winning multiple Grand Slam titles and gold medals in the Paralympics.

Alcott’s remarkable career on court also includes a Golden Slam in 2021, where he won all four major titles and the Paralympic gold medal in the same calendar year.

Before conquering the tennis circuit on wheels, Alcott was part of the gold medal-winning Rollers basketball team at the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing.
