Aussie drivers travelling over the long weekend have been warned to take extra care on the roads after two ‘confronting’ road accidents overnight.

Emergency services were called to one crash at an intersection of the Hume Highway and Worth Street at Chullorah in Sydney’s southwest at about 8.10pm on Thursday.

Police were told a truck and a hatchback collided, and one of the car’s passengers – a 16-year-old boy – tragically died at the scene.

The driver of the hatchback, who is believed to be the teenager’s mother, was taken to Westmead Hospital in critical condition after being treated at the scene.

Another boy travelling in the hatchback was also in critical condition and taken to Westmead Children’s Hospital.

A third passenger in the hatchback, believed to be a man, was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

NSW Police said the truck driver, a man whose has yet to be identified, was taken to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene has been established and the Hume Highway was closed eastbound on Thursday evening but has since been cleared.
