New Zealand delivered a lesson to Australia in the Bledisloe Cup opener as the visitors blew away their opposition in a 54-34 thrashing at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney.
The floodgates opened early in the first half, with Reiko Ioane and Ryan Crotty both going over twice with little opposition from the Wallabies’ defence. Sonny Bill Williams then marked his return from suspension with a try while Liam Squire also found his way over the line.
Damian McKenzie registered his first Test try for the All Blacks just after the break before Ben Smith breezed over from the wing. Curtis Rona, substitute Tevita Kuridrani and Israel Folau went over for consolation tries in the second half to make the defeat more palatable.
It is the first of three Bledisloe Cup Tests and Australia need a sensational improvement if they are to seriously compete in this season’s Rugby Championship.
