Actor Kodi Smit-McPhee cuts a trendy figure at The Power of the Dog movie screening in Hollywood – after scoring SAG and Academy Award nominations for his supporting role in the film


Kodi Smit-McPhee is one of Australia’s most promising actors who was recently nominated for both an Oscar and a SAG Award. 

On Saturday night, the 25-year-old stepped out at The Power of the Dog screening and Q&A at the Harmony Gold Theater in Hollywood. 

The trendy young actor sported a black and white graphic shirt and matching jacket from the brand Death to Tennis.

He added a pair of black skinny jeans from Levis and a pair of Virã³n brand black and white boots. 

Kodi added some accessories in the form of Patcharavipa rings and an Emanuele Bicocchi earring.    

The South Australian actor landed a spot in the Academy Awards best supporting actor category for his career-making turn in Netflix’s The Power of the Dog.

The Western drama is the film adaptation of Thomas Savage’s 1967 novel and was released in theatres as well as Netflix late last year.

The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch alongside Jesse Plemons and Smit-McPhee as secretive, psychologically duelling rivals on a 1920s Montana ranch.  

It led nominations to the 94th Academy Awards with 12 nods, including best picture, best director and recognition for all of its top actors: Kirsten Dunst, Cumberbatch, Plemons and Smit-McPhee.

The Power Of The Dog landed nominations for Supporting Actress, Achievement in Sound, Original Score, Adapted Screenplay, Supporting Actor, Film Editing, Cinematography, Production Design, Best Actor, Director and Best Picture. 

The film’s director, Wellington-born Jane Campion, is nominated for best director. She was previously nominated in the same category for 1993’s The Piano.

Kodi, who previously starred in The Road and X-Men: Dark Phoenix, was also nominated for a SAG Award for his turn in the film as the cunning and  mysterious Peter Gordon.
