Australian basketball star and Olympic great Brad Newley sells Adelaide townhouse for almost $1million profit

Australian basketball great Brad Newley has scored a major real estate win after putting his Adelaide investment property under the hammer for an impressive $1,711,500.

Newley, 39, bought the chic three-bedroom, two-bathroom townhouse in Malvern in 2008 for $750,000 leaving the former Olympian with $961,500 after the sale.

Situated a mere 4kms from the CBD, the two-storey pad features a gorgeous open plan design and delightful timber finishings.

Newley, who was born in Adelaide, bought the home 16 years ago before he began his basketball career reported The Advertiser this week.

Telling the publication that he was just a ‘young guy’ when he snapped up the home, the former Boomer explained that his father owned the block in the early 2000s.

‘It was the first place I ever bought and it’s been a really good investment. I also like to think that I’ve been a pretty good landlord for all those years,’ he said.

Highlights include high ceilings and a spacious master bedroom with walk-in wardrobe and en suite.

Surrounded by lush, sculptured gardens, the pad offers ducted climate control designed to beat the city’s famously torrid summers and chilly winters.

The ground floor features the main living area, opening to a charming porch and garden.

There’s also an oversized kitchen with a breakfast bar and adjoining dining area.

The 198cm tall Newley rose to fame in 2003 as a member of the gold medal winning Australian Under-19 national side after they beat Lithuania in 2003 in the FIBA World Championship.

Newley made headlines in the game after scoring 16 points.

He played with the gold medal-winning Boomers at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

The strapping star was picked to play with the Boomers for the 2008 Beijing Olympics where he gave another impressive performance. He also represented Australia on the national team at the London Olympics in 2012.

In Australia Newley played in the NBL for Townsville Crocodiles and later the Sydney Kings and Melbourne United.

He retired in 2023 after playing with teams in Europe and having his draft rights taken up by NBL teams in the U.S. including The New York Knicks.
