Australian business launches infrared sauna blankets

How to burn 600 calories without moving: You can now buy an infrared sauna BLANKET that will transform your health and skin in your own home

  • MiHIGH has launched an infrared sauna blanket that is currently sold out online
  • The product functions in the same way as an infrared sauna but in a blanket form
  • Up to 600 calories can be burnt by using the product on high for 45 minutes
  • The business launched the product in March 2020 and the item costs $549
  • Expert Madeline Calfas also said infrared saunas offer a range of health benefits

A new Australian business has launched an inventive infrared sauna blanket that is ideal for calorie-burning in lockdown.

The MiHIGH product allows customers to enjoy the benefits of an infrared sauna in the comfort of their own home with little effort.

Business co-owners Edward Hodge and Wyatt Westmoreland launched the brand earlier this year in March and the product design process took eight months to complete.

Madeline Calfas, a registered nurse and anti-ageing specialist from The Wellness Group, also said saunas help boost collagen production, rejuvenates the skin and releases toxins from the body.

‘Infrared saunas use low level light therapy, which gives the body a chance to repair itself while also allowing your mind to switch off and relax,’ she said.

The unique product uses the same technology as an infrared sauna but in the form of a blanket and can be used up to three times per week.

Ed said by using the product for 45 minutes on a high setting you can also burn up to 600 calories without leaving your bed or couch.

‘Infrared saunas penetrate the heat deeper into the skin and increases the heart rate to a higher level compared to a regular sauna,’ Ed told FEMAIL.

Madeline said there are a range of skin and health benefits by using saunas as needed.

‘People often forget the skin is the largest organ in the body and focus on the way it looks – but it’s important to take care of your skin because of its functionality,’ she said.

‘Our skin is also constantly remodelled and formed everyday by the body, and infrared saunas stimulate this process and improve the quality of cells being produced.’

Madeline said saunas can also help decrease stress levels as it ‘forces you to have a time out’ and ‘disconnect from the world’.

Ed said the business idea sparked after Wyatt visited a wellness centre in the US who were using a similar product.

‘We thought “wouldn’t it be great to be able to have an infrared sauna blanket here in Australia?”, so we started working on the design,’ Ed said.

Ed described the manufacturing process as ‘complex’ as they wanted to ensure the correct infrared temperature was set.

The product itself is made from premium waterproof leather materials – also allowing the blanket to be cleaned easily.

The blanket takes 10 to 15 minutes to heat up and the temperature ranges between 25 to 80 degrees Celsius.

The product is currently on sale for $549 instead of $649 and can be pre-ordered on the MiHIGH website.
