Australian election results: Egg Boy rocks up to Labor’s election party amid shock defeat

Egg Boy rocks up to Labor’s election party expecting a victory celebration – but the yolk’s on him as the ALP’s shock defeat leaves attendees reeling

  • ‘Egg Boy’ has been snapped at Labor’s election party on Saturday evening
  • Will Connolly rose to fame when he egged Fraser Anning at alt-right rally
  • He was reacting to Mr Anning’s comments about the Christchurch terror attacks

The teenager who infamously egged Fraser Anning was tonight a guest at what was supposed to be Labor’s victory party.

But Will Connolly has instead joined distraught Labor supporters in crying into their beers after Bill Shorten led the party to a shock projected defeat.

Reporters were not allowed to speak to Mr Connolly at the event, held at Hyatt Place Melbourne, but he was pictured grim-faced as the results rolled in from across the country.

Mr Connolly became a celebrated cult figure after he egged the controversial senator in the wake of the Christchurch massacre in March.

He was reacting to Mr Anning’s comments that Muslim immigration was in part to blame for the mass shooting.

Mr Connolly, who received an official caution for the egging, was celebrated for his actions with a mural in a Melbourne laneway.

The ABC’s election guru, Antony Green, says he cannot see a path to victory for Mr Shorten’s party.

Opinion polls and betting markets failed to predict a Coalition victory.
