Australian Idol judge Meghan Trainor reveals the very surprising celebrity who inspired her son’s unusual name

Former Australian Idol judge Meghan Trainor revealed on Friday the surprising Aussie celebrity who inspired the name of her baby son Barry Bruce.

The Massachusetts-born pop star, 30, and her husband Daryl Sabara stayed in Australia for several months in 2023 while she filmed her role on the Channel Seven series.

The blonde bombshell appeared on The Kyle and Jackie O Show and told her former Idol co-star Kyle Sandilands, 52, that he partly served as the naming inspiration.

‘Barry was in my belly when I was next to you. I told you his name was Bruce but then changed it to Barry Bruce at the last minute,’ she began.

Kyle then asked Meghan why she had chosen such an ‘old fashioned’ name for her son, instead of going with something more unique – and was shocked by her response.

‘Remember I told you that you sound like the big shark in Finding Nemo, Bruce? I thought of him, and I told you on our break I was going to make a baby.

‘I named him Bruce, because he is my Australian baby!’

Bruce the great white shark was voiced by the late iconic Australian actor Barry Humphries in the 2003 Disney movie.

Meghan chose her son’s name from both the Dame Edna star’s first name, the character he played, and the fact Sandilands’ unique voice inspired her to do so.

The Lips Are Movin hitmaker added she had previously told Kyle this in confidence, and was proud of him for keeping it a secret until now.
