Australian Idol judges award four Golden Tickets and gush over contestant’s gripping rendition of Justin Timberlake classic

Australian Idol auditions are well underway and Wednesday night’s gripping episode saw the judging panel award four Golden Tickets to excited contestants.

Kyle Sandilands, 52, Marcia Hines, 70, and Amy Shark, 37, were particularly impressed with a Melbourne man’s rendition of Justin Timberlake’s hit SexyBack.

Jonathan Wells, 28, wowed the panel when he crooned along in perfect harmony to the 2006 song while dancing up a storm on the stage.

‘Is there room for a pretty little pop boy with early 2000s hair? I think there possibly could be, so it’s a yes from me,’ Kyle told the contestant.

‘I’m curious to see what else you’ve got so it’s a yes from me,’ Amy then said and Marcia added: ‘I’m going to say yes, too.’

Kyle then informed the hopeful auditionee he had earned a coveted Golden Ticket, taking him to the final 30 contestants.

Meanwhile, the judges were also impressed by three other contestants and also awarded them Golden Tickets.

They were particularly moved by 25-year-old Drea Onamade’s interpretation of Estelle’s American Boy and gushed over her singing skills.

‘You can sing, you’ve got style. I can feel this aura. You are going to be really hard to beat,’ Amy told her.

Meanwhile, Queensland teen Saoirse Harding advanced to the final 30 by belting out Billie Eilish’s I Love You and Jake Carlson from Melbourne moved Amy with his version of Jason Mraz’s I Won’t Give Up.

‘It’s my brother’s favourite song. My brother is why I wanted to get into music therapy,’ Jake told the judges.

‘Man, he’s lucky to get a brother like you,’ Amy responded and told the singer she was moved by his haunting voice.

Elsewhere on the show, Kyle did not hold back as he criticised a group of contestants over their repetitive song choices.

The judges met five different contestant who all auditioned with the same song – Amy Winehouse’s 2007 hit Valerie.

Sandilands looked disheartened when four of the auditionees mangled the song by performing it out of tune.
