Australian Idol: Kyle Sandilands wows fellow judges with heartfelt rendition of children’s lullaby

Australian Idol star Kyle Sandilands shocked his fellow judges on Sunday with his incredible singing skills after he performed a heartfelt rendition of a children’s lullaby.

The judges had just seen contestant Sam Snape, 29, perform a pitch perfect version of the John Denver classic Thank God I’m A Country Boy, when the aspiring singer brought out his family to meet them.

Kyle, 52, immediately got up from his seat to meet the family and began hamming it up for Sam’s toddler son.

‘Hey mate, do you want to sing a song? Look at that kid, he makes me miss my own child,’ Kyle said before grabbing a microphone.

The radio host then stunned fellow judges Marcia Hines, 70, and Amy Shark, 37, by belting out a rendition of the lullaby Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

Sandilands exuded confidence and star power as he effortlessly performed the tune for the Snape family.

‘Oh my God,’ Amy joked in response to Kyle’s singing while Marcia burst into laughter.

Meanwhile, the judges were so impressed by Snape’s singing skills that they immediately advanced him to the next round.

It was a rare show of emotion for Kyle, who did not hold back last week as he criticised a group of contestants on Wednesday night over their repetitive song choices.

The judging panel met five different contestant who all auditioned with the same song – Amy Winehouse’s 2007 hit Valerie.

Sandilands looked disheartened when four of the contestants mangled the song by performing it out of tune.

'Hey mate, do you want to sing a song? Look at that kid, he makes me miss my own child,' Kyle said. The radio host then stunned fellow judges Marcia Hines, 70, and Amy Shark, 37, by belting out a heartwarming rendition of the classic lullaby Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

‘Oh no, not an Amy Winehouse song again. We have heard that 1000 times and every time it’s horrible,’ Kyle told one heartbroken contestant.

‘The most important thing is song choice. When three or four people come in performing the same song in a row then instantly your eyes start rolling.’

Fortunately, a fifth contestant finally nailed the tune by performing a heartfelt and pitch perfect rendition of the song.

‘You control, engage, you were looking at us and we felt drawn into the performance. That is probably the best version of Valerie we have seen,’ Kyle told 26-year-old Rohan Amaral from Sydney, and then advanced them to the next round.
