Australian kids as young as six months given the Covid jab next month from September 5

BREAKING: Aussie kids as young as six months will be given the Covid jab in WEEKS – but not all children will be able to access it

  • Children aged 6 months to 5 years able to get the Covid jab from next month
  • High risk children can receive their Moderna vaccine from September 5

Children classified as vulnerable between six months and five years-old will be eligible for a Covid vaccine as soon as next month, after the federal government accepted a recommendation from its vaccine advisory group

Currently the vaccine is only recommended for children in that age group who are severely immunocompromised, have a disability, or complex health conditions.

Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommended approximately 70,000 young children classified as at a higher risk of developing severe illness from Covid to be able to receive the Moderna vaccine from September 5.

70,000 young children from 6 months to five years-old who are classified as at a higher risk of developing severe illness from Covid will be able to receive the Moderna vaccine from September 5

Health Minister Mark Butler says the announcement will mean Australia is one of the first countries in the world to roll out a Covid vaccine for that age bracket.

‘The Australian Government has secured supplies of this new vaccine for younger children and these vaccines will shortly be distributed to vaccination sites,’ Minister Butler said.
