Australian Original series The Artful Dodger to premiere November 29 exclusively on Disney +

Disney+ has announced its new blockbuster Australian Original series The Artful Dodger is set to drop on the streaming giant on November 29.

Starring English actor Thomas Brodie-Sangster and LA based Aussie star Maia Mitchell, the eight-part drama is a spin-off from the Charles Dickens classic novel Oliver Twist.

Set in 1850’s Australia, it follows the adventures of one-time teen thief Jack Dawkins, also known as ‘The Artful Dodger’, 15-years after the story of the Dickens novel ended.

In the series, Jack now practices as a surgeon in the colony of Port Victory.

The story centres on what happens when Jack’s former gang-leader arrives in Australia to lure his former pickpocketing protégé back into a life of crime.

Meanwhile, Jack has a romantic involvement with Lady Belle, the Governor’s daughter.

Thewlis plays Dickens’ iconic Fagin character, once a key ally of The Artful Dodger, after they once led a gang of thieves in the slums of London.

Also featured in the cast is Once Upon a time in Hollywood Aussie actor Damon Herriman, Miranda Tapsell from Top End Wedding and comedian and singer Tim Minchin, star of Foxtel’s Upright.

Wentworth star Susie Porter is also featured, along side fan favourite Kym Gyngell (Black Snow), Jack Irish star Damien Garvey and Jessica De Gouw.
