Australian Paralympic gold medallist Alexa Leary left starstruck by words of support from world-famous DJ following her 100m freestyle win

Alexa Leary was left starstruck on Thursday after she received a congratulatory video from a famous DJ, upon claiming the gold medal in the women’s 100m freestyle at the Paris Paralympics.

The Australian swim star, 23, won gold with 59.53 seconds and upon being interviewed post-race, a Channel Nine reporter told her a very special person wanted to say hi.

She was then shown a pre-recorded message from Aussie DJ Fisher, 37, who congratulated the athlete on her incredible win.

‘Alexa you absolute legend! First up, I want to say congratulations on breaking that world record, sis!’ Fisher began.

‘Me and my little baby Bobbi are going to be watching you in this next race. Come on, bring it home girl. We love ya, you’re such an inspiration.’

A starstruck Alexa looked thrilled to have received the kind words of support from the popular house musician, and quickly expressed her delight.

‘That was Fisher… oh my goodness. That just made my day, made my race. Surely I’ll be up on that stage being a side dancer,’ Alexa joked.

The swimming champion has previously revealed in interviews she pumps herself up for training by listening to Fisher’s energetic dance music.

The gold was Leary’s first individual Paralympic medal and came after she had single-handedly carried Australia’s 100m relay team to an emphatic first-place finish two days earlier.

The achievement marked another incredible milestone in the increasingly rich chapter of what the 23-year-old’s terms her ‘second life’.

Leary fell off her bike in a near-fatal accident in 2021, leaving her with brain damage and several long-term injuries.

More than once, doctors informed her parents, Russ and Belinda, they should prepare to say goodbye to their daughter.

Searching for answers and hope, Leary’s parents turned to a clairvoyant who predicted the swimmer would rise to become a Paralympic gold medallist.

‘It is so amazing, when I was in ICU, my dad got a fortune teller. They read I would go to the Paralympics, and now I’m here. Wow, I did it,’ Alexa said.

She was beside herself with excitement as she revelled in clinching gold in a world record time.
