Porn star Kiki Vidis has opened up about working in the adult film industry and claims her family support her unusual career choice.

Australian born Vidis, 30, started out as a topless waitress to supplement her salary as a nurse.

She now splits her time between Miami and Australia after a successful decade long career.

This career has seen Vidis previously nominated for an AVN award – the adult version of the Academy Awards – and had her own Playboy reality TV series.

Vidis open with her family about her profession and has even posed nude with her mother and her sister in men’s magazines.

She says that while she still loves her job the way the porn industry has changed a lot since the Global Financial Crises of 2008.

‘A lot of companies went bust and sold their content to people like Pornhub, who put it on the internet for free,’ Vidis explained to Perth Now.

DVDs then quickly became obsolete and caused salaries to go down.

To make matters worse actors started undercutting each other to get jobs.

‘I miss the day when you used to have a favourite porn star, now people don’t have a favourite star, they have a favourite category,’ she said.

These days, she says, actors are supplementing their film fees with other side contracts such as sponsorship deals and endorsements to make the same amount of money.

Perth company Vodaire recently modelled a hyper realistic sex doll on Vidis, which she says is a ‘milestone’ for her.

It is the first ‘celebrity collaboration’ for Vodaire who plan to sell the doll for around $5,000.

The company is launching the product at an event in Melbourne this weekend.

Vodaire marketing director Dylan Urquhart, who previously worked more traditional marketing jobs, says he is thrilled to get such a big name for their first attempt.

He said most of these types of dolls are sent to remote areas – with some going for as much as $10,000.

China and Japan are also big markets, he says, and Artificial Intelligence is something the company is currently exploring.

Vidis says she is flattered by the collaboration.

‘In my industry, whenever you get endorsements or sponsorship, or a lingerie line or body parts turned into adult toys, it’s a big deal.’
