Australian senator refuses to back down after being called out for spreading a bizarre conspiracy theory

Victorian Senator Ralph Babet has refused to back down after being called out for spreading a bizarre conspiracy theory that claims the world is controlled by Satanic paedophiles.

A tweet simply stating ‘The world is run by Satanic pedophiles’ was posted by the United Australia Party senator on his X feed.

Senator Babet told Daily Mail Australia he stood by this claim and a number of other provocative social media posts.

These include sharing the theory that Donald Trump’s attempted assassination was an ‘inside job’ set up by bodyguards.

Senator Babet insisted that his tweets reflected his genuine beliefs.

However, La Trobe Professor of Political Communication Andrea Carson believes the tweets are part of a ‘cynical’ strategy to raise his profile.

‘We have an example of an accidental politician in the form of Babet who got 4500 votes to get the second position to represent Victoria,’ Professor Carson said.

‘When you have got a minor politicians with fairly low profiles in terms of their portfolio responsibilities they do try to punch about their weight by getting social media attention.’

The ‘Satanic paedophiles’ tweet gained 1.2 million views, proving the value of Professor Carson’s observation that ‘co-opting or appropriating international content’ was helping the local senator’s cause.

‘In a global information environment politicians like Babet try to leverage what they can to get as much attention as possible,’ she said.

‘However, when he sticks to local content he is not getting much reach or viewership, so the more sensational and controversial the views and the more they can tap into global narratives the more attention that he gets.’

When asked by Daily Mail Australia about the wild accusations,  Sen. Babet doubled down on his Satanic paedophiles message.

‘We are in a spiritual battle, it is good versus evil, there is no other way to describe this,’ Sen. Babet said.

The UAP representative would not specify who the Satanic paedophiles are that run the world but he did rule out the leaders of Australia’s major political parties.

‘Is Peter Dutton a Satanic pedophile? Absolutely not,’ he said.

‘Is Mr Albanese a Satanic pedophile? No, he is not, but then again these people don’t run the world do they?’

‘They are puppets. Albanese is a puppet, Peter Dutton is a puppet, they are both beholden to globalist special interests behind the scenes.

‘The political elite – who prefer sucking the teat of their wealthy overlords in Davos than representing the people who elected them – are gorging themselves on unchecked mass migration,’ he claimed.

‘I could nominate entire suburbs in Sydney or in Melbourne where you can walk down the street and well imagine you are in a foreign country.’

Professor Carson described Senator Babet as a ‘niche politician’ whose electoral prospects can be boosted by building a small but dedicated following, and does not have to speak to broader audiences.

‘They (niche politicians) are using the big US, UK narratives to try and increase their algorithmic spread and ultimately their personal profiles,’ she said

‘They don’t get the normal platforms they are not out there is serious ministerial portfolios where they getting attention to their policy initiatives.

‘So how does he get the type of attention and eyeballs he craves in order to get re-elected? He does it by using the algorithmic spread of sensational content on social media and that’s what we are seeing here.

‘He will comment on anything on getting traffic that fits with the worldview of being a maverick politician.

‘The more sensational the content the content is the more it drives emotions, the more it is likely to spread, particularly fear, anger and hate.’

Professor Carson said Senator Babet’s tweets were ‘disappointing’ in ‘a global information environment that has low quality information and high quality information’.

‘When we look at the problems of mis- and dis-information, one way to mitigate that is to increase high quality information,’ she said.

‘It is disappointing when you see the elites that are not exercising responsible free speech and this is an example of that where he is contributing to low quality information and the public takes notice of this.

‘Politicians are there to be leaders and sense makers not to contribute to a polluted information system.

‘I find it ironic in one of his clips he talks about the degradation of political institutions but in these acts he is contributing to lowering public trust in institutions and politicians by spreading inflammatory content.’
