Australian supermodel Jordan Barrett speaks out about gender pay disparity in modelling

As one of the world’s top male supermodels, Jordan Barrett received a paycheck of $100k for Justin Cassin’s Mercedes-Benz Australian Fashion Week show in May.

But the Australian hunk claims modelling is far from a man’s world.

Speaking to The Courier-Mail on Friday, the 22-year-old said: ‘It is kind of one of the only industries where women are paid more than men.’

‘It is basically a women’s industry’: Australian supermodel Jordan Barrett speaks out about gender pay disparity in modelling after he received $100,000 for one runway show

The fashion ‘bad boy’ went on to say he believed the pay disparity was ‘a good thing and fair’.

Jordan – who hails from Byron Bay – explained his stance: ‘Sales in men’s and women’s products is completely different, it is so obvious and fair that women make more money in modelling.’

‘It is basically a women’s industry. More women buy make-up, hair products and clothing than men, it is just simply that. Guys aren’t generally out there buying tonnes of hair products. Girls buy more clothes than guys.’

'It's a good thing': Jordan said he completely backed and celebrated the fact that women were being paid more in the industry

The chance meeting took place when he was caught stealing matches from a convenience store.

Jordan told New York Magazine about the incident: ‘I wanted to have a cigarette, but I couldn’t get a lighter because apparently you have to be over 18, so I decided I was gonna take matches from the counter.’
