Australian Survivor: Americans furious as Paramount+ removes all seasons

Americans are furious as streaming platform Paramount+ removes all seasons of Australian Survivor – heralded by some fans as better than the U.S. version

Australian Survivor has been dropped from U.S. streaming service Paramount+, leaving American fans of the show furious.

All six seasons of Australian Survivor, including the current season airing on Channel 10, appeared on Paramount+ four weeks ago, but have now been wiped from the platform, reports Reality Blurred.

The streaming giant, which is owned by Paramount Global, formerly known as ViacomCBS, has not explained why the Aussie series has been pulled, but viewer reaction has been strong.

Originally developed 30 years ago, the Survivor franchise is an elimination game with versions developed all around the world.

Contestants called ‘castaways’ are isolated in a remote, primitive location, where they must endure a series of physical and mental challenges.

The dramatic high point of the format has ‘the Tribe’ of contestants vote out players one by one. The winner is the ‘Sole Survivor’.

The U.S. version has lasted 41 seasons since its premiere in 2000.

Channel Nine took on Australian Survivor in 2002 but the ratings were disappointing.

Re-emerging on Channel 10 in 2016, the show has become a blockbuster for the network.

Australian Survivor, hosted by Jonathan LaPaglia, has a cult following the U.S. because of its larger cast, greater number of episodes, and deeper physical and mental challenges.

One big difference where the Americans have the edge is the $1million prize money.

The Sole Survivor of the current season of Australian Survivor: Blood V Water, which was filmed in Far North Queensland and is airing now on 10, will win $500,000.
