Australian teacher share the hilarious gifts they have received from students

Teachers confess the worst gifts they’ve ever received from students – including a bottle of Champagne with a message from a dad’s secret lover

  • Aussie teachers are sharing the presents from  kids that made them laugh or cry
  • The bizarre gifts range from a life size Daniel Craig cutout to 20 cents for lollies
  • Teachers also received  live animals, raw meat and fish, and diamond rings

Australian teachers have been sharing the most bizarre gifts they ever received from students for Christmas – from raw chicken to a life size Daniel Craig cutout and 20 cents for ‘something nice’.

The conversation was sparked by a Facebook post which asked teachers which gifts had made them do a double take over the years.

Many teachers also shared the heartwarming gifts that have stayed with them for years, and there wasn’t a mug or candle in sight.

The teachers also said they often get re-gifted items that parents don’t want anymore.

‘I was once given a bottle of posh Champagne which was in a box from a dad,’ one mum said.

‘It turned out that it was a re-gift as the inside of the box was inscribed with a message to him from a lover: ‘Thanks for the fun in the shower’.

One woman said she was gifted a priceless diamond ring by one of her students.

‘Apparently it was a family heirloom that was generously given by an eight-year-old boy who helped himself to mum’s jewellery box,’ she laughed.

Another teacher said her English class gifted her a life size cardboard cutout of Daniel Craig from James Bond.

A common gift is a tiny amount of money from young kids who believe they are being very generous.

‘I received a 20 cent coin from a kindergartener to ‘buy whatever I wanted’ one teacher said.

‘One year I received a half used bottle of Poison perfume from a year nine boy. Thinking it was perhaps stolen from his mum, I discreetly called her and she checked her dressing table, but said ‘Yup, that was mine but I don’t like it!’ another teacher shared.

‘I once received a garden decoration. The student told me his little brother had broken it at the nursery, so the parent had to buy it and the student’s mother didn’t like it, so the student gave it to me,’ another wrote.

Other ‘hilarious’ gifts from kids included brutally honest notes and messages.

What gifts do teachers actually want?

An American teacher previously revealed said teachers have enough mugs and candles, and shared a list of gifts teacher would find helpful instead:

 * Noise blocking earbuds so teachers can concentrate and plan their lessons in silence

* Felt pens that are coloured but also scented to make preparing lessons fun

* A $25 food voucher in case they forget their lunch

* A carry bag to help teachers organise their belongings, such as notepads, pens, and books

* Personalised teacher stamps to make grading papers more enjoyable

One teacher received a hand drawn note from a child telling her she was ‘almost’ the best teacher in the world.

Some of the gifts teachers received were just downright bizarre.

‘I was gifted a pair of underwear with Tweety Pie on them,’ one teacher confessed.

One confused teacher received an aquarium decoration.

‘I don’t have any fish,’ she said.

‘A piece of moss because she knew I like nature,’ another teacher laughed.

‘In my first year of teaching a boy proudly gave me a huge crayfish that he’d caught with his dad,’ another said.

Other bizarre gifts include a packet of raw chicken, freshly caught fish and live animals such as puppies and kittens.

However, many teachers received heartwarming gifts that they’ve held on to for decades.

‘I received a small diamond. It is set into a bangle I had made, been on my wrist for 15 years now,’ one teacher said.

‘Many moons ago, a very talented student composed and presented a waltz for me,’ another lucky woman said.

‘I had a student once give me a pet rock. The child had nothing. Not even a doll of her own. Her pet rock was her only possession,’ another said.

Many teachers agreed that ‘the biggest gift’ is when former students become friends.
