Aussie woman shocked at price of a bag of chips in Coles: ‘Do people actually pay this?’

Chips have become the latest item to be hit by Australia’s crippling inflation crisis after a bag of chips surged in price to $8.50.
Christina Podolyan found a bag of Smith’s Salt & Vinegar chips for the price at her local Woolworth’s.
‘You know inflation has hit hard when a bag of chip is no $8.50,’ she said of the 380g bag.
‘Don’t worry about it, I’ll just go without,’ she added.
Many other were shocked by the price too, saying treat food had become unaffordable.

‘Inflation is going to make me healthy,’ one person replied to her TikTok video.
‘Two blocks of chocolate were on sale for $10 my heart dropped. Usually they’d be on sale two for $5,’ said another.
It comes as another Aussie discovered that Doritos were also soaring in price.
Kay Calamatta, from the Gold Coast, said that she was shocked to find a $280 box of Doritos on sale for $8.90
‘Grocery prices are getting out of control,’ she said in a video.
‘Does anyone remember when chips use to be $5 a box.
Many said that cheese, dishwasher tablets, and Pepsi and chocolate have all surged in price too.
It comes as customers were left outraged after noticing a popular jar of Cottee’s jam has disappeared from shelves with fears it will be replaced with a smaller size for the same price.

One shopper claims the 500g jar of Cottee’s apricot jam, priced at $3, has been secretly discontinued – but a 375g jar has become newly available for $2.80.
A conversation about ‘shrinkflation’ sparked on Reddit after the two sizes were compared in store.
‘The old 500g Cottee’s jam was $3 at my local Woolworths. The new 375g jars are $2.80,’ the Redditor wrote alongside an image.
‘The old 500g jar got put on clearance and are completely gone forever. Buy them while you can.’
It appears all flavours have been effected, not just apricot.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Kraft Heinz, the company that owns Cottee’s, for a comment.
Earlier this month Woolworths started selling a box of Cadbury Favourites for a whopping $32.
The price of the box of chocolates, which recently removed two popular treats, has angered Australians who say it’s ‘ridiculous’. Others joked you need Afterpay to fund the purchase.
Favourites boxes are sold in different sizes depending on the retailer, making it harder for shoppers to compare prices.

However the $32 box breaks down to a whopping $3.90 per 100grams, while the ‘regular’ sized box works out at $2.12 per 100grams.
It’s the latest in a long line of beloved Aussie products that have seen their prices ramp up in recent months, including the Coles Mud Cake, Ritz Crackers, and Kettle Chips.
‘This is ridiculous, I’m contemplating on going a week protest of no sugar and no chocolate,’ one person wrote online in response to the price hike.
