Australians can now get plants delivered to their home through lockdown

Australians are now turning to plant delivery services so they can transform their indoor space into a jungle escape during lockdown.

With most non-essential stores temporarily shut due to strict Covid-19 restrictions, many plant shops and nurseries are delivering potted and hanging plants in all shapes, sizes and colours, to your door, with some offering same-day drop off.

Shoppers can find plants ranging from the classic fiddle-leaf fig and monstera to the rarer species like the Alocasia green velvet or a variegated umbrella tree.

The service is perfect for anyone looking to send birthday gifts to friends or family who are celebrating alone in lockdown, or treat themselves to a new leafy friend.

Founder and plant lover Felicity Keep said her store offers ‘hard-to-kill’ plants, with same-day delivery if you order by 11am.

‘I was working in an office and there was a flower delivery. I saw how much it just absolutely made the recipient’s day,’ she said.

‘That’s the moment when I thought how wonderful it would be to combine my love of plants with a same day delivery business.

‘I started off small, just succulents and coloured pots but the demand of indoor plants became quickly apparent and my plant selection and products grew.

‘There is such a mutual love in this city for indoor jungles. It makes my job so easy because I love to help people send a plant to someone or to themselves.’

Her home delivery service offers low maintenance plants, gift bundles, beautifully crafted ceramic pots in all shapes and sizes and even rescue plants.

Trent Wu opened up his plant store with his partner Charlie inside a corner terrace in Newtown, Sydney’s inner west, after he worked for one of Australia’s big four banks.

‘After much consideration, Charlie and I decided that it would be great to take our love of up-cycled pots and plants to the people to share the passion of Plant Daddy,’ Trent said.

‘This has quickly evolved over the last 12 months from selling our up-cycled creations at local markets to opening our own studio and online store based in our home suburb of Newtown.’

The boutique plant store offers customers a wide range of carefully selected, hand-grown indoor plants, pots, styling, accessories and plant care.

They are offering free delivery on orders over $50 to homes within 5km of their Newtown studio, and free delivery over $100 to Sydney locations within 50km radius of their store.
