Workers have been drenched on their morning commute on Thursday as heavy rain batters Australia’s east coast.

A severe weather warning is in place for parts of the New South Wales south coast, with flash flooding possible.

About 16mm of rain has rain fallen in Sydney’s CBD since 6am.

The wild weather is expected to continue into the evening, with the Bureau of Meteorology warning surf conditions will be hazardous along Sydney’s coastline.

‘Large and powerful surf conditions in the evening are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, swimming and surfing,’ BOM said.
