Those struggling to break into the housing market might be able to snag a bargain in some the country’s hot property spots with many busting to sell their houses.

Thousands of properties have been put on the market with hundreds just a short drive from some of Australia’s major cities including Sydney.

While house prices fall for the first time in six years, those looking to buy could find their dream home in Warriewood, New South Wales with 193 property listings advertised in the last year.

The northern beaches suburb just 30 kilometres from Sydney’s CBD has property for sale starting from $840,000 which features two bedrooms, two bathrooms and two car spots.

CoreLogic research analyst Cameron Kusher said potential buyers can grab a bargain because off the high number of properties, Nine Finance reported. 

Highest number of properties for sale  

In the last 12 months, there have been thousands of listings with these towns having the highest number of properties for sale.

  • Warriewood – New South Wales (193)
  • Yarram – Victoria (172)
  • Clermont – Queensland (238)
  • Risdon Park – South Australia (227)
  • Katanning – Western Australia (194)
  • Prospect Vale – Tasmania (143)
  • Katherine – Northern Territory (182)
  • Braddon, – Australian Capital  Territory (143)

Yarram in Victoria’s far south, about 222 kilometres from Melbourne, had the highest number of property for sale in last 12 months. 

Currently there is a two bedroom unit for sale for $123,680 in the Victorian town which is just one of 172 for sale in last year. 

Those wanting snap up a house in the sunshine state have lots to choose from in Clermont, 290 kilometres south-west of Mackay, Queensland.

Across the rest of the country, Risdon Park in South Australia, Katanning in Western Australia, Prospect Vale in Tasmania, Katherine in Northern Territory and Braddon in the Australian Capital Territory all had the most properties for sale in each state.

Many of the towns are in regional parts of the states or territories where Katherine, 317 kilometres south-east of Darwin, saw the greatest increase in listings in 12 months.

The Northern Territory town had a 97.8 per cent increase in listings where 182 properties went up for sale.

The biggest increase in listings also occurred in Winmalee in New South Wales, Nhill in Victoria, Clermont in Queensland, Fairview Park in South Australia, Usher in Western Australia, Moonah in Tasmania and Pearce in Australia Capital Territory.
