Singapore tops the list with a download speed of 55.13Mbps. This means a 7.5 gigabyte movie can download in 18 minutes.
By comparison the same movie would take over 12 hours in Australia based on the mean internet speed.
Yemen rounded off the list at number 189.
Professor Nirmalathas told The Daily Telegraph the internet service providers were to blame for Australia’s slow speeds.
‘A big factor is that internet service providers are not keeping up their investment to be consistent with the NBN investment,’ Professor Nirmalathas said.
‘The NBN debate has been running a long time and other countries have managed to speed up their deployment so that’s why we are behind.’
