Australia’s most decadent Christmas Day lunches, and you can still have a sausage sizzle

For most Australian families, quality time on Christmas Day is peppered with hours spent slaving over a hot stove to prepare the perfect festive lunch.

But for wealthy families looking to burn a hole in their pockets, the day can be a far more relaxed affair.

Daily Mail Australia compiled a list of the country’s most lavish Christmas Day lunches, with unlimited three-booze packages, fresh oysters and champagne ice cream.

Diners in Cairns can feast on a ‘premium seafood extravaganza’ at the exclusive Pullman hotel, where for $230 per person revellers can enjoy fresh oysters, three types of crab and a three-hour booze package. 

Down in Sydney, the five-star Park Hyatt hotel is offering discerning diners a four-course set menu for $340 per person, and they will even be greeted with a glass of Veuve Clicquot Champagne on arrival. 

Meanwhile, the city’s panoramic restaurant O Bar and Dining offers turkey with garlic and macadamia stuffing, with seared Wagyu sirloin or hemp rigatoni for $230.

When they arrive, the table will be filled with whipped ricotta, seaweed infused salt and oysters served with fermented persimmon vinegar.

They will then enjoy a traditional turkey breast with a herb, garlic and macadamia stuffing, but can also try a seared Jack’s Creek wagyu sirloin with charred hispi cabbage.

But nothing will leave a dent in your pocket quite like the exclusive Vue de Monde in Melbourne, which offers a six-course tasting menu with wine pairing for a whopping $550.

For handing over their hard-earned money, families can enjoy whole duck, a two-part mud crab course – including a mud crab sausage sizzle.

The trendy Bathers’ Pavilion in Sydney’s Mosman saw its Christmas packages sell out months ago, offering revellers as $295 three-course lunch.

Far removed from soggy Brussel sprouts and store-bought cranberry sauce, diners will enjoy steak tartar, a traditional roast turkey with potato fondant and yuzu savarin with champagne ice cream.

In Adelaide, the exclusive boutique hotel Mont Lofty House is offering a decadent $265 Christmas lunch.

It offers a feast complete with a giant chocolate fountain and a live flambeed brulee station.

But first, guests can enjoy a dizzying array of antipasti and local charcuterie, before tucking into slow cooked beef porterhouse, freshly shucked oysters and charred baby octopus.

For those feeling a bit more exotic, they also have king prawns, New Zealand green lipped mussels and poached blue swimmer crabs.

Last year, Australians spent an estimated $25 million over the Christmas period, an average of $1,325 per person.

For food, the average spend was $122 per person, with another $131 per person spent on alcohol.

The average person spent $464 on presents for family and friends.
