Australia’s unemployment rate has fallen to 5.5 per cent with 13million people now in work. 

April’s jobless figure is the lowest since the start of the Covid pandemic, and marked the first full month of data since the end of JobKeeper wage subsidies.

Unemployment fell from an upwardly revised 5.7 per cent in March to 5.5 per cent last year, new Australian Bureau of Statistics labour force data has revealed.

The number of people with a job stood at 13.040million, a level 30,600 below the record high tally of 13.071million in the labour force a month earlier.
