Author predicts what happpens in the next Star Wars movie

Are you dying to know what happens in the next Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi?

If you are, one author claims you don’t have to wait until December to find out – just watch the old installments and learn.

A new book explains that by analyzing the previous films’ narrative structure, you can predict that Rey and Luke Skywalker will likely get into a fight, and Rey will lose a limb – just like Luke did at the hands of his father, Darth Vader.

A new book explains that by analyzing the previous films’ narrative structure, you can predict that Rey and Luke Skywalker will likely get into a fight, and Rey will lose a limb – just like Luke did at the hands of his father, Darth Vader

The book, called The Star Wars Rings – The Hidden Structure Behind the Story, was written by Star Wars fan Tomas Pueyo.

Pueyo told the DailyMail.com that he first became interested in Star Wars when his father snuck him out of school to watch a screening of Star Wars: A New Hope.

‘I saw this amazing movie and obviously I watched all the movies and every kid wants to be like Luke right? Fighting for the good guys against the bad guys,’ Pueyo said.

Pueyo’s book describes the narrative patterns of Star Wars, and how understanding them can help predict what happens in the next movie, The Last Jedi, which will be released on December 15, 2017.

Pueyo says that they key to figuring out what will happen in the next Star Wars movies is an ancient storytelling tool called Ring Theory.

Most stories follow the same rules: a situation, a challenge and a hero starting their journey.

PREDICTIONS FOR THE NEXT STAR WARS MOVIE

  • Rey leaves Luke’s planet: The middle movie of every trilogy is important because there’s an inflection point. For example, in episode 2, Anakin’s mother dies, and in episode 5, Luke is confronted with a vision of his own face behind Darth Vader’s helmet – an indication of what would happen if he turned to the Dark Side. We know something like that will happen with Rey, something will shock her, probably linked to her parents, it might lead to strain between her and Luke.
  • Rey loses a limb: Limb cutting happens all the time in all the Star Wars movies, but in second movie of each trilogy, limbs are cut from ring characters. For example, at the end of episode 2, Anakin loses his hand to Count Dooku, and at the end of episode 4, Luke loses his forearm to Darth Vader. It’s a pattern now, so it’s possible Rey will lose a limb by the end of The Last Jedi.
  • Luke may be tempted by dark side: Based on the trailer for The Last Jedi, when Luke says ‘The Jedi must end,’ it seems that Like is no longer a whole-hearted defender of light. There’s another point – from the poster, both Kylo Ren and Luke are red-faced, and that’s the color of the dark side, and their faces together form a single face, broken by a ray of blue light from Rey’s lightsaber.
  • Kylo and Rey are twins: There’s speculation that Luke, Obi-Wan or even Han-Solo could be Rey’s father, and it’s possible Leia is her mother. This would mean that Kylo Ren and Rey are twins, like Luke and Leia before them, and these twins represent light and darkness. It would also be a surprise, like the revelation that Darth Vader was Luke’s father.
  • Rey falls into a trap: In Star Wars episode 2, the separatists prepare to betray the Republic in the planet of Geonosis. Obi-Wan discovers the plan, and Anakin goes there to rescue a friend. In episode 5, Han-Solo, Leia, Chewbacca and C-3PO fall into a trap organized by Darth Vader. So in episode 8, it’s possible that Rey will try to rescue her friends, including Finn, in a new city called Canto Bight.

There aren’t many variations in the journeys, and it usually involves a hero going up, then down, before resolving the conflict.

For example, In Star Wars episode 4, Luke Skywalker is a poor boy in a desert with great skills with robots and driving, and he becomes a Jedi, but in episode 5 he’s tempted by the dark side because of the fear of losing his father (Darth Vader), and in episode 6, Luke chooses the light side and finally destroys the Death Star.

What Ring Theory says is that this structure is followed not only across a single movie, but also across scenes, characters and even trilogies.

Another prediction for the next Star Wars movie is that Rey will lose a limb. In second movie of each trilogy, limbs are cut. For example, at the end of episode 2, Anakin loses his hand to Count Dooku, and at the end of episode 4, Luke loses his forearm to Darth Vader

For example, in Star Wars episode 1, Anakin Skywalker also starts as a poor young boy in a desert planet with great skills with robots, driving and lightsabers, and he becomes also Jedi.

In episode 2, Anakin becomes tempted by the dark side because of the fear of losing his loved ones (his mother and Padme), and then in episode 3, when confronted with choosing between the light side and the dark side, he chooses the dark side.

In episode 7, Rey, just like Anakin and Luke, starts off as a poor young girl in a desert with great robot repair and driving skill

So, a full ‘ring’ in the original trilogy is the same ring for Anakin in the Star Wars film prequels, and it may be the same ring for Rey too.

For the next Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi,  Rey (left) may leave Luke’s (right) planet, where. ‘The middle movie of every trilogy is important because there’s an inflection point,’ says Pueyo, the author of The Star Wars Rings – The Hidden Structure Behind the Story

In both of the second movies in the Star Wars trilogies, the mentor and mentee disagree. So in episode 8, Rey may have an argument Luke and leave the his planet. Pictured are Luke and Rey at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Star Wars Ring Structure has also been written about by Mike Klimo in an extensive online essay.

For the next Star Wars movie, Pueyo predicts based on ring structure that Rey will leave Luke’s planet, where they met in episode 7.

‘The middle movie of every trilogy is important because there’s an inflection point,’ says Pueyo.

WHAT IS RING THEORY?

Ring theory, or ring structure, is an ancient literary technique of motifs that follows a symmetrical pattern.

In Star Wars episode 1, Anakin Skywalker also starts as a poor young boy in a desert planet with great skills with robots, driving and lightsabers, and he becomes also Jedi.

In episode 2, Anakin becomes tempted by the dark side because of the fear of losing his loved ones (his mother and Padme), and then in episode 3, when confronted with choosing between the light side and the dark side, he chooses the dark side.

Anakin’s arc through Episodes 1 to 3 mirrors Luke’s arc through Episodes 4 to 6.

It’s a circular history that repeats itself over time, with variations every generation.

For example, in episode 2, Anakin’s mother dies, and in episode 5, Luke is confronted with a vision of his own face behind Darth Vader’s helmet – an indication of what would happen if he turned to the Dark Side.

‘In the middle there needs to be an event, an ordeal that changes the character,’ says Pueyo.

‘We know something like that will happen with Rey, something will shock her, probably linked to her parents, it might lead to strain between her and Luke.

Pueyo also notes that in both of the second movies in the trilogies, the mentor and mentee disagree.

‘For example, in episode 2 Anakin disobeys Obi-Wan when he goes to Tatooine,’ says Pueyo.

‘And Luke leaves Yoda to save his friends in episode 5 and falls into a trap.

‘So in movie 8, I think Rey will leave the planet to probably fall into a trap.’

Another prediction is that Rey, just like Anakin and Luke before her, will lose a limb.

‘Limb cutting happens all the time in all the Star Wars movies, but in second movie of each trilogy, limbs are cut from ring characters.

For example, at the end of episode 2, Anakin loses his hand to Count Dooku, and at the end of episode 4, Luke loses his forearm to Darth Vader.

It’s a pattern now, so it’s possible that Rey will lose a limb by the end of the movie.

But what about light versus dark?

Based on the trailer for The Last Jedi, when Luke says ‘The Jedi must end,’ it seems there is no longer a whole-hearted defender of light.

‘There’s another point – from the poster, both Kylo Ren and Luke are red-faced, and that’s the color of the dark side, and their faces together form a single face, broken by a ray of blue light from Rey’s lightsaber,’ says Pueyo.

‘Also, the entire shape of the poster forms the Jedi symbol, with Rey at the core.’

Pueyo predicts that at the end of episode 8, light and darkness will be at a very high state of instability, so that by the 9th movie, they can reach a resolution.

This resolution will be balance, so it won’t be the dark side the loses, or the light side that wins – it’s both together.

The book, which will launch on September 19, is available on Kindle and paperback.
