Author’s Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce fan fiction novel ‘Roughing the Princess’ leaves the internet bitterly divided – as readers voice shock over very ‘steamy’ take on their alleged romance

A brand new novel based on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s romance has left readers fiercely divided – with some branding the book as ‘icky and gross’ due to how ‘closely it aligns’ to real life, and others praising the author for her ‘steamy’ take on Hollywood’s latest ‘it’ couple.

Like many people around the globe, Ivy Smoak, a best selling author from Delaware, became enthralled with the 33-year-old singer and the football star’s rumored new relationship – so she decided to use it as inspiration for her latest novel.

She spent only three days penning a 108-page tome entitled Roughing the Princess, which follows a popstar named Tova and a famous athlete named Talon, who struggle to maneuver their newfound love as millions of their die-hard fans watch their every move.

The self-published book dropped via Amazon and Kindle on September 29 – and almost immediately, it sparked a heated debate on the internet. People quickly took to TikTok to share their thoughts, and while some were obsessed with Ivy’s tale, others were not here for it.

‘For the last two months, rumors have been swirling that I have a crush on the world’s biggest popstar. And the rumors are true,’ reads a description of the book.

‘Yes, I went to her concert and tried to meet her. And yes, I got turned away by her security.

‘Thanks to my brother not being able to keep his big mouth shut on our podcast, the whole world knows that.

‘That’s what started all this speculation. But it’s also what got me her number. Somehow, the tabloids found out that we’ve been texting. But that’s all they know.

‘They don’t know what we say in those texts. And they definitely don’t know what kind of pictures she sends me.

‘Now I’ve sent her tickets to come watch my next home game. My teammates don’t believe she’ll come. But I know she will.

‘If she doesn’t, it’s her loss. Because I’ve been dreaming about our first meeting for months. And the things I’m going to do to her are too sinful to be reported in the tabloids.’

She slammed Ivy for making the story too realistic, adding, 'I was almost flabbergasted by the amount of direct quotes that she took from [Travis'] podcast or from interviews he's done'

‘I hate talking negatively about books on my page, it’s just not my thing, but I said I would read and review this one and I have a lot of thoughts and feelings,’ she shared in a video posted this week.

‘I had very low expectations going into this because it was written in three days – but it was even worse than I expected it to be.

‘I’ve read more than 1,000 books in the last five years and I don’t think I’ve ever truly regretted reading a book until this one. I would like my hour of time reading this back.’

She slammed Ivy for making the story too realistic, adding, ‘I was almost flabbergasted by the amount of direct quotes that she took from [Travis’] podcast or from interviews he’s done in the last month.

‘That is not an inspired book, that’s just copying and pasting what happened in real life.’

She explained that the characters’ similarities to Taylor and Travis made the ‘spicy stuff’ feel ‘icky and gross.’

‘By the time it [got to the spicy stuff] I was super uncomfortable because it was so closely aligned to what we’ve seen publicly so far from Taylor and Travis and it made me feel really, really icky,’ she continued.

‘This is not what the girlies wanted when we said we wanted a football star meets popstar inspired romance book. This is not it.

‘This is what gives BookTok a bad name. It just felt like a gimmick to try to make money off of the thing that’s causing the internet to lose their minds.

‘It made me feel really uncomfortable, I would save an hour of your time and pick up literally any other book on the planet.’

Another book reviewer, who goes by the username BratzLibrary, called Ivy ‘disrespectful’ for writing ‘graphic sex scenes’ that involved characters based off Taylor and Travis.

‘It’s just weird to me and disrespectful because we all know who this is about,’ she said. ‘And aside from that, the story just wasn’t good. I don’t recommend this.’

Someone else, named Gina, described the tome as the ‘worst book she ever read in her life’ in another TikTok video.

‘It’s directly based on Taylor and Travis. Oh sure, she changes up the names but everything that happens is exactly what we’ve seen,’ she said.

‘What a lot of us wanted was a book that was inspired by their relationship and not just a cheap rip-off that made me feel like I just watched a private porno. That’s how I feel.

‘I’ve read a lot of spicy books over the years but I’ve never had this feeling after a book, I’m feeling so ashamed.’

Amid the backlash, the book has been removed from Kindle and is now listed as ‘out of stock’ on Amazon. Ivy also deleted all promotions for the book from her social media accounts.

Despite the immense criticism on TikTok, some people have defended the book in the review section on Amazon.

‘Loved it,’ one person entitled their five-star review. ‘Ivy has done it again. Love her books.’

‘Short, sweet and steamy. I appreciate how she was inspired by this story and made it her own,’ someone else gushed.

‘It’s plenty different from the real life events to stand on it’s own. This genre may not be everyone’s cup of tea but as an avid graphic romance reader – I definitely enjoyed it as a fun little read.’

‘This book was fire,’ read a third review. ‘It’s hot and steamy, and left me wanting more from these two characters. I loved every single page of it.’

A fourth said, ‘I know there are some people upset about it being inspired by Travis and Taylor but honestly I loved it.

‘To me, they were their own people. I would love to read more about this couple and the other characters.’

While Ivy’s novel begins with a ‘disclaimer’ that says the story is ‘fictitious’ and that ‘any relation to real life events are coincidental,’ the author did confirm that it was ‘inspired’ by Taylor and Travis’ romance in a video shared to her Facebook.

The two stars first sparked dating rumors last month, when a source told The Messenger that they had been ‘quietly hanging out.’

At the time, the two-time Super Bowl winner, 33, admitted on his podcast, New Heights, that he had tried – and failed – to make a move on the Cruel Summer songstress at one of her shows in Kansas City back in July.

The athlete said he had his phone number inscribed on a bracelet, which he planned to present to the pop star – but unfortunately, he was not able to get it to her.

‘She doesn’t meet anybody – or at least she didn’t want to meet me,’ he said. ‘I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings, but I was a little butthurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I’ve made for her.’

A few weeks later, Travis admitted that he had invited Taylor to come see his team, the Kansas City Chiefs play.

She accepted his invitation and was spotted cheering him on – and even cozying up to his mom, Donna Kelce – in the VIP suite as the team’s game against the Chicago Bears days later.

The two stars were then caught leaving the sporting event together in his vintage convertible.

They headed to a private party at Prime Social, where Taylor was pictured wrapping her arms around the footballer.
