Millennials have moved on from avocado toast and are on to their latest bizarre trend of Avocado proposals where people are actually shoving diamond rings into the center of the fruit.
Couples are taking their love for the green superfood to a whole new level and instead of classic ring boxes people are carving the pit out of the avocado and replacing it with an engagement ring to pop the question to their partners.
While some people are completely repulsed by the idea others are totally on board and avocado proposals are popping up all over social media with people shoving a diamond ring into the gooey core of the fruit.
Trend: The latest wedding proposal trend that’s popping up all over social media is the avocado proposal like this one by food stylist Colleen Dike
Yes! One user on Twitter shared this proposal where the fruit is cut in half and pitted with a ring in the middle
Just before Valentine’s Day food stylist Colleen Dike posted to her Instagram account Food Deco, a photo of an avocado sliced in half and pitted to look like a box with the pit replaced with a diamond ring and the caption, ‘Tag someone who should propose like this.’
The post received almost 11,000 likes with over 2,000 comments from peaople either tagging their friends or partners and replying to the photo saying that being proposed to with an avocado would be a dream come true.
One user even commented, ‘Nothing would make me happier than someone putting a ring in an avocado and proposing to me!’ while another avocado enthusiast wrote, ‘Oh my! This is the perfect proposal I loved it.’
While someone else wrote, ‘If I ever get married, tell my boo this.’ Another girl tagged her friend and joked, ‘You better have my back and tell a dude for me!’
Surprise! A wedding photographer was on the beach in Connecticut one day when she randomly saw this couple getting engaged with an avocado proposal
Torn: While many people are all for this bizarre new idea, others are a bit skeptical
A wedding photographer from Connecticut, Kim Tyler, was taking photos on the beach one day when in the background she noticed a couple getting engaged.
The boyfriend was actually down on one knee proposing to his girlfriend with an avocado, while ironically, she was sitting eating an avocado.
Kim posted the sweet candid photo with the caption, ‘I was just minding my business photographing a senior when this literally happened right behind us.’
Another avocado proposal was posted on Instagram by Matt Caron who jokingly made the caption, ‘Every hippie girl’s dream proposal.’
When one woman saw the post she immediately commented saying, ‘OMG I didn’t even know that’s what I wanted and now I MUST get proposed to just for this.’
Considering avocados are super mush and the fact that their bright green hue quickly turns to brown, some people were not enthused by the idea of a slimy proposal.
Annoyed: This guy is obviously not having it and doesn’t think the avocado proposal is a good idea
Gross: One user described that she would never want to put a mushy ring on her finger
No: This user hilariously joked that despite loving avocados, the idea of a proposal with one is not intriguing
One girl admitted, ‘I love it but if it wasn’t ripe though it would be a solid “no.”‘ Meanwhile other people not intrigued by the latest trend shared, ‘When did avocado proposals become a thing? I don’t know how I feel about this…’
‘I’m just going to be honest… I don’t if I would say yes if I was proposed to with an avocado,’ said one woman.
Someone clearly grossed out by the idea wrote, ‘I don’t want to put that on my finger while it’s covered in avocado mush,’ while another person took it as a bad omen saying, ‘Not sure this is a good idea Avos go brown fast could be a bad symbol for the marriage.’
Regardless of who thinks it’s a good idea or not, some people who love avocados are really taking part in the bizarre trend and are ecstatic.
A woman from California, Taylor Selby, who describes herself in her Instagram bio as an ‘avocado lover and smoothie bowl addict,’ was actually proposed to with the fruit and posted proof.
She shared a photo of her now husband, Ben Stevenson, down on one knee on a beach and captioned the photo of her hubby with the avocado ring box saying, ‘I couldn’t help but share the BEST and most creative proposal/best day of my life.’
Aww: Taylor Selby was proposed to by her now husband, Ben Stevenson, (pictured) down on one knee on a beach saying, it was the ‘BEST and most creative proposal’
Weird: A company, Custom Avocados, exists and they print any message you want on avocados, like this one man’s testimonial
Meanwhile, if the trend has sparked some inspiration there’s even a company, Custom Avocados that prints custom designs or logos of your choice onto the fruits.
They even shared that they recently had a couple from New York order where the partner proposing ordered a series of memos printed onto the avocados followed by the last one that said ‘will you marry me?’
Plus, one of the testimonials on their site came from Cody W. of New York, NY who shared, ‘I wanted something unique to help propose to my girlfriend, but couldn’t find the right thing… until I heard about Custom Avocados.
‘I had personalized messages printed on avocados, leading her to the final one asking her to marry me. After the proposal, we had delicious snacks for days. It was perfect! Now, I plan to get custom avocados to give as favors at the wedding.’
