Awkward moment footy star is spotted making X-rated comment during poignant Anzac Day ceremony ahead of Collingwood vs Essendon

Footy great Scott Pendlebury was caught making an X-rated comment during the moving Anzac Day pre-match ceremony at the MCG.

Collingwood met Essendon on Thursday for the annual April 25 match, which has been a staple in the Australian sporting calendar since 1995.

Pendlebury, who is second behind Bombers legend Dustin Fletcher in Anzac Day appearances, made his 16th appearance this year and lined up alongside his teammates for the ceremony before the bounce.

Part of the pre-match ceremony includes the flying of fighter jets over the stadium, causing a huge din for those in attendance.

And while Pendlebury is no stranger to this sight, he was still taken aback by the loud noise coming from above.

During the Australian national anthem, he was seen turning to fellow Pies star Steele Sidebottom and appeared to say ‘I f***ing s*** myself’, referring to the planes in the sky.

Collingwood champion Pendlebury went on to enjoy a landmark moment during the game as he registered his 10,000th career disposal, reaching the milestone in the early stages of the match.

He passed five figures with a modest handball in his defensive 50.

The 36-year-old has enjoyed an incredible career, averaging 25.6 disposals per match since his debut 18 years ago.

But he was unable to celebrate his individual achievement with a team victory, as Essendon and Collingwood played out a dramatic draw – the first time the Anzac Day game has ended even since the inaugural game in 1995.

Pendlebury is married to wife Alex, with the pair tying the knot in Bali, Indonesia, in 2016.

The couple share two children, with their son born in 2017 and daughter born in 2019.

In other surprising news, very few players sung the anthem, with only a handful of stars seen mouthing the words.

But Collingwood coach Craig McRae was moved by the events that unfolded at the MCG.

‘That was incredible, ‘he said while choking up on Channel 7 after the ceremony.

‘Yeah, just to be there, present, quite emotional to be honest.

‘Just a privilege, you know? To be grateful to be (here) on this day. Sorry.’

Pendlebury’s teammate Jamie Elliott put his name in the hat for mark of the year with a spectacular effort against Essendon.

Midway through the third quarter, Elliott leapt onto the shoulders of Ben McKay to claim the ball at full stretch in one of the greatest marks in the prestigious game’s history.

He timed his jump to perfection, using the 202cm Bombers star as leverage to get up and take the footy.

His effort was made all the more impressive as he calmly slotted his set shot goal.

‘What about that for an Anzac Day spectacular! That is as good as it gets. Over the hulking frame of Ben McKay. Wow!’ James Brayshaw said.

‘We’ve seen some big marks at this ground, none bigger than that.’

‘What a massive highlight for everyone watching that was. Just a great football moment,’ Brian Taylor said, comparing Elliott’s mark to former Essendon star Gary Moorcroft’s famous effort.

‘Andrew Walker a similar one on the opposite side of 50. That was as good as you get. Full climb and full stretch on a bloke who is 2m tall as well,’ Dale Thomas added.

‘When Ben McKay came into the game thinking of Anzac moments, I don’t think he was expecting to end up on a poster.’

Meanwhile, Essendon legend Jobe Watson said: ‘He needed his passport, because he is going international.’
