Bachelor and Bachelorette couples that lasted and failed

It’s the reality TV dating show which helps eligible singles find their ‘happily ever after’.

But while some stars of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette Australia have found lasting love, not all the relationships stood the test of time.  

As season five of The Bachelor winds down this week, Daily Mail Australia looks back at the engagements and pregnancies that delighted fans as well as the break-ups and scandals that made us question love itself. 

Georgia and Lee (in a relationship)  

In October 2016, season two of The Bachelorette saw former Hobart journalist Georgia Love, 29, find her Mr. Right in Lee Elliot, 36.

The couple were smitten during the finale, which left Matty ‘J’ Johnson devastated. 

Now, almost a year later, the pair have been enjoying a romantic getaway in Italy to attend a friend’s wedding. 

Rumours have been flying that an engagement may be on the horizon for loved-up Georgia and Lee, with many speculating Lee may pop the question during their holiday.

While Lee played down talk earlier in the year that the pair were moving in together, he did admit that they were already planning their wedding despite not being engaged.

In an interview with Now To Love in August, he claimed that the couple were ready to make the next big move in their relationship.

‘I’ve already started saving for a ring,’ he told the publication.

Richie and Alex (split)

Last year, Richie Strahan, 32, and 26-year-old Alex Nation’s relationship was met with both joy and criticism after runner-up Nikki Gogan was left devastated.

Things also appeared strained in February this year, after the couple were pictured looking tense on a Perth street, with Alex’s eyes appearing bloodshot from crying.

However, it was finally confirmed that Alex and Richie had ended their relationship in August when Alex was pictured kissing another woman, Maegan Luxa.

Sam and Snezana (engaged)

Also in 2015, Sam Wood and Snezana Markoski, both 37, sealed the deal with a promise ring on the season three Bachelor finale.

The fitness trainer and the single mum captured Australia’s hearts, with Sam choosing Snezana over Lana Jeavons-Fellows.

Sam, who swiftly become Australia’s sweetheart after the drama, was later granted a second chance at love on the first ever season of The Bachelorette Australia.

Months after getting her heart broken by Blake, upcoming Home and Away star Sam was paired with several potential suitors and ultimately found happiness with Melbourne construction manager, Sasha Mielczarek, 33.

Despite the heartwarming finale, which sadly saw Michael Turnbull sent home, Sydney-based Sam and Sasha confirmed their split after 18 months in February this year.
