Backstreet Boys star AJ McLean shares incredible body transformation photos on journey to sobriety

Backstreet Boys member, AJ McLean, uploaded a body transformation post on his Instagram earlier Thursday. 

The talented performer, 44, has been focusing on his health and remaining sober after years of alcohol and drug abuse. 

In the caption to his inspirational post, the father of two explained that while he has made major progress, ‘The journey is far from over though.’

The talented performer showcased his body transformation with a collage of photos that he shared with his 1.1 million followers. 

On the left side of the photo, the singer added a snap from a year ago when he was enjoying a day at the beach. 

On the right, AJ shared two photos to show how his body has changed within one year due to a healthy lifestyle and staying sober. 

He had taken a recent mirror selfie in a gym, showcasing his toned abs and fit physique.  

The star added a caption to explain the transformation, typing, ‘Thought I’d do a little throwback Thursday vibes. Found the pic on the left from a year ago on vacation and wow it’s amazing what a little dedication and setting goals can do for a person.’

AJ added that he is still on the path to recovery and becoming the healthiest version of himself. ‘The journey is far from over though. This is just the beginning!’ 

He added a few hashtags, such as ‘#healthylifestyle #sober #nomoredadbod.’ To conclude his message, the performer inspired his followers and typed, ‘Let’s go! If I can do it so can you!!’ 

During an interview with People two years earlier, the star detailed his journey and motivation to alter his lifestyle completely. 

‘My wife and I had always had this agreement, which was, if I smelled like alcohol, I wasn’t allowed to play with my kids. I couldn’t be around my kids,’ he explained to the publication.

‘But what really hit me was the moment, my youngest daughter Lyric said to me that night, ‘You don’t smell like my daddy.’ And when she said that to me, that was it. Enough said. I felt disgusting,’ he admitted. 

He explained during the interview that has family has had a major influence on remaining sober. 

‘I’m floating high, naturally. My family has saved my life, God has saved my life, and my recovery has saved my life. Without those three things, I wouldn’t be here.’ 

Since 2020, AJ has continued to have a healthy and sober lifestyle for his wife, children, and himself. 

The singer and dancer has kept up to date with his continuous transformation over the years with his fans and followers.

While focusing on his sobriety journey, AJ has been spending time with the Backstreet Boys for their DNA World Tour. 

The iconic group is currently performing in Canada, and will soon travel back to the United States for a number of concert dates. 

The tour is set to go on until March 2023. When talking to CNN Entertainment earlier in July, AJ expressed how thrilled he was to be back performing on stage. 

‘The rest of the tour is sold out. Europe is sold out. Latin America is sold out,’ he stated. 

‘It’s a testament to each other. It’s a testament to our fans, and it’s a testament to the music,’ AJ added. ‘I’m honored to say that I’m a Backstreet Boy, and I’m proud to be a Backstreet Boy in 2022.’
