Bake Off viewers left OUTRAGED by Liam leaving

He was quickly marked out as the nation’s favourite contestant when the Great British Bake Off returned for another series.

So viewers were understandably left very upset after university student Liam Charles, 20, was booted off the Channel 4 competition on Tuesday night.

Fans were outraged by the judges’ decision after what they believed was just a couple of dodgy bakes by Goldsmiths drama student Liam, who was in tears as he was booted off.

Many took to Twitter to cry for ‘justice for Liam’ and express their sorrow through memes as they stated that fellow contestant Kate Lyon should have left the tent for her inconsistent bakes.

Youngest baker Liam won over GBBO viewers for his cheeky charm and love of baking.

Fans were delighted when he finally won Star Baker during Pastry Week, and judges have praised him for his flavours throughout the process.

Judge Prue Leith even congratulated him earlier on in Tuesday night’s episode for his flavoursome Bedforshire Clanger.

But he came last in the Rum Nicky Technical Challenge, and his spun sugar melted before judges Paul Hollywood and Prue could taste his Savoy Cake in the Showstopper round.

However Kate also had a poor week, after dropping one of her Bedforshire Clangers on the floor and the base of her Savoy Cake fractured and ripped.

Her cake was also dry despite using a whopping 60 eggs.

Most fans on Twitter felt that Liam had been more consistent throughout the process than Kate, despite his decoration failing to impress in the critical last quarter-final round.

Some even suggested that they would stop watching the show altogether because of the decision.

One even joked that they were making a formal complaint to Channel 4.

Elsewhere, Stacey’s strength appeared to get the better of her when she inadvertently ripped the door off her oven.

But she was still named Star Baker for her impressive bakes.

Looking back over his time on the show, Liam said: ‘Being the youngest baker in the tent had a massive part to play. It meant I got lots of mothering and fathering from the bakers, with some really good advice on baking and how to cope in the tent.

‘Even though it’s a mixed age range, as bakers we all bonded together really well and still socialise. We are now planning a night out at Nando’s, as some of the bakers have never been.’

Liam, who filmed the show during the second year of his drama degree, said he had received huge amounts of support from his family and university friends, who have since nicknamed him ‘cake boy’.
