Baker shares previously unseen snap as she crafts £244 cake for Harry and Meghan’s daughter Lilibet

The baker who made the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding cake has revealed a new snap of a £244 floral two-tier strawberry buttercream cake made for Lilibet’s first birthday.

Prince Harry, 38, and Meghan Markle, 41, enjoyed the British summer sunshine and hosted a ‘relaxed’ garden party in June for their daughter in the Windsor estate with birthday cake, balloons, party games and picnic snacks.

East London baker Claire Ptak – who made the couple’s wedding cake in 2018 – created treats for the low-key bash, including a two-tier cake that featured a seasonal strawberry buttercream.

And yesterday, she shared a  new snap of the cake on Instagram as part of a highlights reel of 2022, saying: ‘Our 2022 Greatest Hits. Thank you to all our customers and supporters last year for inspiring such beautiful work.

‘Thank you to my incredible team for executing it all with so much fun, humour and passion.’

In the snap, she can be seen placing a pink peonie onto the cake, which featured the youngster’s name.

It was complete with an Amalfi lemon and elderflower filling and covered in a light buttercream.

On the bakeries website, the cake is described as having ‘three layers of vanilla sponge drizzled with elderflower syrup and filled with Amalfi lemon curd.’

The top and sides of the cake are ‘iced with a buttercream scented with the juice and zest of lemons from the Amalfi coast, and decorated with chopped candied Amalfi lemon peel.’

At the time, Claire – who owns the bakery and carefully designed the incredible cake – wrote on the brand’s Instagram: ‘It was an absolute pleasure to make this special cake last week for Lilibet’s birthday.

‘Wishing her a very happy year ahead!’

She added: ‘The inside was the Amalfi lemon and elderflower cake I created for the Duke and Duchess’s wedding in 2018, but this time we covered it with a strawberry buttercream specially for Lilibet.’

Among the gifts for the tot were apparently a pastel pink VW Beetle ride-on car, £75 from Selfridges, while Sussex supporters donated $100,000 to charity in her honour.

Prince Charles may have bought her a swing similar to one he bought for Prince George – after an aide to the Sussexes was seen unloading it from their private jet in Santa Barbara.

A spokesman for the couple did not name family members who attended the party at the time, but Zara and Mike Tindall were believed to have made an appearance. But Prince William, Kate, George and Charlotte were in Wales representing the Queen.

Those who are said to have also been at Frogmore Cottage include Zara and Mike Tindall’s three children, Mia, eight, Lena, three, and Lucas, one, as well as Savannah, 11, and Isla, 10, daughters of Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly.

Three-year-old Archie’s godfather, Charlie Van Straubenzee, and his brother Tom, godfather to Princess Charlotte, were also invited, it is understood.

Twitter royal commentator and friend of the Sussexes Omid Scobie said the couple invited close friends and family for an ‘intimate backyard picnic’ as he posted the picture.

The couple later shared clips of the event with their fans in their bombshell Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan.

In the videos, the Duke and Duchess can be seen lifting up Lilibet as she blew out the candles on her cake.

The latest snap of the birthday cake comes as sources claimed the Royal Family are ‘completely exhausted’ with the ‘stream of misinformation’ from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The comments come in the wake of Prince Harry’s publicity blitz for his new autobiography, Spare, set to be released next week, during which he has claimed his family ‘have shown absolutely no willingness to reconcile’.

He also claimed he would ‘like to have my father and brother back’ in trailers for a pair of interviews with ITV’s Tom Bradby and CBS’s Anderson Cooper which dropped yesterday.

A royal insider told the Mirror: ‘It all feels very repetitive. Harry’s constant sniping is rather draining and he knows full well it is highly unlikely they will engage in a tit-for-tat battle of words.’
