Marc-Andre ter Stegen will undergo knee surgery in yet another blow for Barcelona this week.
The German goalkeeper was on the pitch when the Catalans were thumped 8-2 by Bayern Munich on Friday night during the Champions League quarter-final in Lisbon.
That result cost Barcelona manager Quique Setien his job and while Dutch boss Ronald Koeman is set to take over, the incoming head coach will have to do without Ter Stegen for the first few weeks of his job.

The 28-year-old posted on social media: ‘I will undergo an intervention for my knee tendon.
‘The medical experts and me discussed to do this “Clean-up” as there were some irritations earlier this season.
‘It’s a proactive intervention in order to prevent and prepare for the future. I will need some weeks to recover and to return to 100%.

Barcelona confirmed that the player had been suffering tendon problems throughout the season, which the operation will be hoping to get rid of.
Ter Stegen appeared 46 times for Barcelona in the league, keeping 15 clean sheets. He has been a key part of the La Liga giants’ side since his arrival from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2014.

Overall, he has made 236 appearances for the Catalans in the last six years and has helped them win four La Liga titles, four Spanish Cup trophies and the 2014-15 Champions League.
Barcelona have Brazilian goalkeeper Neto as an understudy, though the 31-year-old has only featured twice since his arrival at the Camp Nou 12 months ago.
The 2020-21 La Liga season will begin on September 12, with Ter Stegen hoping to be back between the sticks in and around this period.
