And Barcelona said in a club statement: ‘During the course of Tuesday’s match, Rakitic took a knock to his left hand.
‘Tests on Wednesday have confirmed that he has fractured a metacarpal bone. He will have to undergo surgery, after which a statement will be issued to explain how the operation went and how long he is expected to be out of action.’
Rakitic will be hoping to be fit as soon as possible in order to return to full fitness ahead of this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
He will also want to ensure Barcelona win the Spanish title having featured in 30 league games so far this season.
