Barcelona are poised to make a loan offer with option to buy for Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo.

The 29-year-old defender spent the second half of last season out on loan after falling out of favour at The Etihad.

After being deemed surplus to requirements by Pep Guardiola, the Portuguese international made a surprise move to Bayern Munich.

But the board at the German giants opted against making his arrival permanent in the summer.

Now Cancelo is set to join Barcelona.

Man City also want over £30m for Cole Palmer which could price Borussia Dortmund out of the running.

The 21-year-old’s future is in doubt despite scoring in the Community Shield against Arsenal and Wednesday’s Super Cup victory over Sevilla.

Palmer wants more regular minutes after two seasons bedding into the squad yet is unsure of Guardiola’s plans for him given that City are attempting to land Jeremy Doku from Rennes.

The forward has been seen as the natural successor to his biggest admirer Riyad Mahrez, who acted as a mentor and was straight on the phone for a congratulatory exchange minutes after England’s Under 21s lifted the European Championship in July.

But City are looking at doing a deal for Doku to inject pace into their attack, while already boasting Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva – both of whom spent significant time on the right wing during the Treble season.
