Barcelona forward Sergio Aguero will have to undergo a full heart check after being diagnosed with arrhythmia, according to reports in Spain.

The Argentine striker – who joined on a free transfer from Manchester City in the summer – felt pain in his chest after jumping for the ball up against Alaves defender Victor Laguardia in the first half of their 1-1 draw on Saturday night.

The 33-year-old was taken straight to hospital in an ambulance to receive a medical check-up after being replaced by Philippe Coutinho three minutes before half-time.

And Marca now claim Aguero will have to complete a full heart check over the next few days to discover the extent of the problem, all the while being under the eye of medical professionals.

Catalan outlet SPORT meanwhile claim Aguero suffered from an abnormality of the heart’s rhythm, something they add he has suffered from before, while it has also been reported by others that his heart-rate was significantly higher than normal.

He will therefore only be allowed to return once his situation his clear, which could now rule him out of their game against Dynamo Kiev.

The Argentine striker first required medical attention shortly before half-time having complained of dizziness.

There was growing distress in the stadium in the 40th minute as Aguero lay flat on pitch, having gone down moments after he had his hand placed on his chest.

Barca’s medical staff rushed on the pitch to assist Aguero and looked to place him on a stretcher, before he eventually got up and slowly walked off the pitch unaided.

Barcelona’s caretaker coach Sergi Barjuan said after the game: ‘I was told he was feeling a bit dizzy.

‘I have just learned that he was taken to hospital and I can’t say much more until I know.’

Spanish television recovered images of Aguero showing signs of a muscle problem as early as the 18th minute. Later in the first half he appeared to signal to the bench that he wanted to be taken off.

It was five minutes before half time when he went down and was treated on the pitch by Barcelona doctors.

There has as yet been no official statement from the club, but there was direct communication on centre-back Gerard Pique, who will miss the crucial Champions League tie at Dynamo Kiev with a right knee injury.

The Catalan giants sit third in Group E, two points clear of Dynamo but one behind second-placed Benfica and six behind leaders Bayern Munich with just three matches to go.
