Barry Humphries to get a state memorial at the Opera House next month with free tickets being made available to fans

The late comedian Barry Humphries will get a state memorial at Sydney Opera House next month. 

The beloved star, who died in April this year aged 89, will be publicly farewelled on Friday, December 15, at 11am. 

The memorial will give fans the opportunity to get two free tickets per person via a queuing system online. 

‘The State Memorial will bring together dignitaries, family, friends and fans of Mr Humphries from across Australia and around the world to celebrate his extraordinary career and achievements,’ the NSW government said in a statement. 

The tickets will be offered through Sydney Opera House’s website, from Friday, November 17, 2pm AEDT.

For fans who fail to secure tickets, the memorial will be streamed online. 

Barry was known the world over for his famously colourful characters including Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson. 

Barry sent shockwaves through the entertainment community in April, when he passed-away at St Vincent’s Hospital, surrounded by his immediate family.

He was remembered as an entertainment giant in Australia and around the world, particularly in the UK where he had a massive fan base. 

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said: ‘For 89 years, Barry Humphries entertained us through a galaxy of personas, from Dame Edna to Sandy Stone.

‘But the brightest star in that galaxy was always Barry.

‘A great wit, satirist, writer and an absolute one-of-kind, he was both gifted and a gift. May he rest in peace.’
