Barry Manilow has been forced to cancel shows for his Las Vegas residency this weekend after he was hospitalized for a bronchial infection, it has been announced.

The singer of hit songs like Copacabana released a statement on his Twitter account on Thursday announcing the cancellations.

Manilow, 74, was scheduled to open his Las Vegas residency at Westgate, where sold-out shows were planned.

‘I can’t believe this is happening,’ Manilow said.

‘Our new show is ready, we’re all ready, and we were all looking forward to tonight.’ 

Manilow is ‘under the care of the best doctors’ and is ‘expected to be released in a few days and make a speedy recovery,’ according to a statement on his social media page.

His shows will resume next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
