Base jumpers make their way along ‘gangway of death’

This is the gut-wrenching moment two fearless thrillseekers perform a walk along a metal gangway not much larger than a foot wide – and then jump hundreds of feet to the floor with just a parachute.

Andrew Toyer, who lives in the Netherlands, and his friend Mick Hill climbed for 30 minutes up the huge apparatus in Belgium to jump of the ledge overlooking fields.

The 45-year-old, who could not give the full location of the jump for fears of getting locals in trouble, said getting to the point of the jump was a challenge in itself.

The footage, filmed from Mr Toyer’s GoPro attached to his helmet, starts with the two men edging their way along a gangway barely wide enough to fit their feet across.

The pair remain virtually silent as they make their way across the structure, trying to keep perfect concentration.

Yet as they finally reach a pole sticking up from the apparatus, the pair begin to laugh and joke about their death-defying walk.

Holding on with one hand, they each give each other a handshake to congratulate one another.

Mr Hill, who is the person at leading the way, is heard saying ‘holy s***’ to which Mr Toyer replies ‘the first few steps, my legs were like f****** jelly!’

They exchange pleasantries as Mr Hill turns around to face out away from the structure, which is surrounded by dozens of fields.

Mr Hill then leaps from the structure, releasing his blue parachute as he plummets towards the ground.

It is then Mr Toyer’s turn to take the plunge. He takes a final few big breathes as he peers over the ledge and jumps and is heard letting out a laugh of relief as he opens his parachute and makes his way to the ground.

Talking about the jump to MailOnline, Mr Toyer said: ‘The jump was done this summer.

‘The reasons for doing it are hard to explain, you have to experience it in order to understand it, it’s hard to play golf after doing stuff like this.

‘I’ve known Mike for three years now, I’ve jumped with him in a couple of countries.’

When asked if he and Mr Hill had anymore jumps lined up, he said: ‘Absolutely! We are always looking for new objects but this one takes the cake in regards to the sketchy walk out.’

As they both arrive on the ground, the pair both still buzzing with adrenaline give each other a high-five and celebrate their latest jump
