Bayern Munich continue discussions with Fulham over Joao Palhinha fee, after the Premier League club rejected a £30m bid last week for their star defensive midfielder

Bayern Munich are continuing discussions with Fulham over a fee for Joao Palhinha, after a £30m bid was rejected last week.

The West London club believe that the fee is too low for their star midfielder, but the Germans remain hopeful of reaching an agreement.

The Portugal international is keen to go to the Bundesliga, with Vincent Kompany charged with getting Bayern back to the top of the German league following a poor season by their standards under Thomas Tuchel.

Bayern tried to sign Palhinha last August for £60million, and he even underwent the first part of his medical, but the deal fell through as Marco Silva’s Fulham could not find a replacement. 

Palhinha is expected to sign a four or five year contract, should the clubs find an agreement on the fee. 

New Bayern boss Vincent Kompany has earmarked Palhinha as a prime target for the club 

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill and Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah are also on Bayern Munich’s radar this summer. 

Bayern were keen to bring in a defensive midfielder last season, and sport director Max Eberl felt the lack of cover in the position ultimately cost them during their campaign amid a series of injuries. 

Midfielder Palhinha joined Fulham from Sporting Lisbon in 2022, and was named the London club’s player of the year after an impressive debut season.

He has played 79 times for the Cottagers, netting eight goals, while building a reputation as one of the Premier League’s best defensive midfielders. 

Palhinha has 27 Portugal caps, and is likely to start alongside Bruno Fernandes in midfield, as Roberto Martinez’s side look to win the European Championships in Germany this summer.  

Portugal begin their campaign against Czechia on Tuesday week, before Group F games with Ukraine and Georgia. 

The Portuguese midfielder came close to moving last summer but the deal was scrapped 

Fulham are in talks to sign winger Jacob Bruun Larsen, who was on loan at Burnley last term

Seperately, Fulham are in talks with Hoffenheim over a deal for Jacob Bruun Larsen.

The Danish winger, 25, was on loan at Burnley last season, where he made 36 appearances across all competitions, netting seven goals.
